Charismatic and international cellist Giovanni Sollima performs with the instrumentalists of Il Pomo d'Oro in the album "Al-Bundukiah~The Lost Concerto". The album, which transcends cultures and eras, places Vivaldi, born in Venice in 1678, in the context of the historical relationship between his native city and the eastern Mediterranean and Asia. Al-Bundukhiya" is the Arabic name for Venice, and "Il Concerto Perduto" (The Concerto Perduto) is a work that Sollima composed in 2021, based on Vivaldi's concerto RV 787, "For Resetta." His only point of departure was one of Vivaldi's cello concertos, which remains in the viola section of the orchestra now preserved at the Venice Conservatory. Among other items are concertos by Vivaldi, improvised solos by Sollima, works by Tartini, a contemporary of Vivaldi, and traditional music from Cyprus and Albania. When Al-Bunduqiya's program was performed at London's Wigmore Hall, the Scene and Hardware International wrote Sollima evoked a feast of tones pizzicato, climbed to the heights of the fretboard with romantic bravado, and evoked decorative flourishes with an improvisational flair."
