Andrea D’Alto’s masterpiece *Kiua* (1988)—which was also included on the Brazilian New Age compilation *OutroTempo* by *MusicFromMemory*—is now available on CD for the first time worldwide in a paper sleeve edition! This Japanese-exclusive edition also features previously unreleased tracks! This album is truly “instrumental music that uses the voice as an instrument.” Featuring Sergio Souto and Paulo Andrade of Sesto do Beco—who also contributed to the songwriting of the main tracks—as well as the Bahian jazz band Grupo Garagen, among others. In addition to the title track “Kiua,” the album features “Flutando,” which opened the Sesteto de Beco album, as well as a powerful cover of Caetano Veloso’s “Odara.” While inheriting the fusion style directly from Sesteto de Beco, the core of the sound is Andrea’s undulating falsetto. His voice, radiating overwhelming individuality, makes this album an unparalleled masterpiece. Released as an independent production, this album was not distributed nationwide but was available only in Salvador and the surrounding area. Long forgotten and known only to a select few connoisseurs, this album became a rare item sought after by Brazilian music collectors worldwide after the title track “Kiua” was included on *OutroTempo*, a compilation of Brazilian New Age and experimental music released by *MusicFromMemory*. Previously available only on vinyl, this is the world’s first CD release. It will be released in a paper sleeve. Highly recommended not only for fans of Brazilian music but also for listeners of ambient, experimental, and jazz/fusion music.
