Amy Norrington, daughter of Roger Norrington and founder and artistic director of the Resonance Music Festival (a Belgian chamber music festival), and Pete Kuijken, son of Wieland Kuijken and longtime piano and historical piano teacher at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Two of the great talents and insatiable passions in the world of ancient music are passed on to the next generation, and a collection of Brahms's cello sonatas is now available on the long-established Dutch label Et'cetera! Amy Norrington has participated in many recordings as an ensemble member and guest artist, but this is probably her first main album of her own, and there are high expectations for this remarkable production of Brahms with Pete Kuijken. In addition to Brahms' two cello sonatas, which are pillars of the cello-piano duo repertoire, they have arranged three of Brahms' songs, shedding new light on some of Brahms' lesser-known song masterpieces and celebrating the cello's appeal as a singing instrument.The instruments used are a Francesco Ruggieri 1695 cello with gut strings and an original fortepiano by Johann Baptiste Streicher 1868.
