Description:

Pianist Ralph van Raat, who specializes in modern and contemporary piano works, plays a collection of secret French contemporary pieces. The album includes Debussy's last piano piece, "Evening by Burning Coals," "Two Bird Songs" from Messiaen's "From the Gorge to the Stars," which was greatly influenced by Debussy, "The Bewick's Warbler," discovered in 2012, and "12 Notations," the first piece by Boulez, who was taught by Messiaen and developed his own musical language, as well as the world premiere of the "Prelude," a piece by Ralph van Raadt. Boulez's earliest works, "12 Notations," and the world premiere recording of "Preludes, Toccata and Scherzo," among others. Boulez's last piano piece, "A Page from the Celestial Calendar," clearly retains traces of his early style, and is a good example of the trajectory of contemporary French music as well as the style of each composer. The short minuets that Ravel wrote in his notebooks are also a clear example of this tradition. Naxos Japan
