He has written commissioned works for several American opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Opera House of St. Louis, and the Santa Fe Opera House, and won the 2020 Grammy Award for "Best Opera" for "Fantastic Mr. Kitsune. American composer Tobias Picker (1954-) is also known for various other orchestral works. This album features two works that combine theater and music. Encantadas" is based on the work of Herman Melville, author of "White Whale," and the title "Encantadas" refers to the Galapagos Islands off the west coast of Ecuador in South America. It depicts an eerie scene of a magical island that is inhospitable to humans due to its harsh natural environment. The composer himself served as narrator. Opera without Words was originally written as a normal opera, but the voices and text were later removed. Nevertheless, the work retains traces of the libretto and other script traces, and the performers are asked to become the characters of the opera according to these traces. Naxos Japan
