This is the 12th collection of Stravinsky's works supervised by Robert Kraft, a composer and conductor who was a close student of Stravinsky (1882-1971) and a friend of Schoenberg in his later years. The 12th collection of Stravinsky's works includes the "Concerto Duet" with its contrasting sounds of violin and piano, the "Sonata for Two Pianos" written in exile in the United States with Russia in mind, the "Requiem Canticle" performed at Stravinsky's funeral, and the dramatic "Abraham and Isaac" with its Biblical motifs, Lamentations, one of Stravinsky's most moving works. The Blue Bird," an arrangement of Tchaikovsky's work, and a wide variety of other pieces. The instrumental pieces are of course wonderful, but the large-scale works are outstanding. Naxos Japan
