Description:

While the Marlborough Festival focuses on chamber works, often works with voices are also chosen for the program. Here, American mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnson sings Respighi and Cuckson. The program includes three historical recordings of Shostakovich's works, sung by another American soprano, Benita Valente, and others. The climax of applause at the end, unique to the music festival, is also wonderful. (C)RS
