Description:

Ivan Sokolov was born in Moscow in 1960. Raised in a cultured family, Sokolov began playing piano at an early age and began studying composition at the age of 8. At the age of 12, he studied with Lev Naumov, a highly respected disciple of Negus, who strongly influenced him and later called him "the most important person in my life. After graduating from the Moscow Conservatory, Sokolov began his career as a composer, initially writing avant-garde works, but later rejecting radicalism and returning to a more traditional style of writing reminiscent of Tchaikovsky and Glazunov. This album contains mainly very recent works. This disc offers a taste of Sokolov's style, including "Postlude" in the style of Scriabin and "Elegy" in the style of Rachmaninoff. Sokolov provides all the accompaniment, and the soloist, Pollick, freely manipulates the violin, viola, and piano to convey the true value of the works. Naxos Japan
