Description:
This is the first collection of orchestral works by German Romantic composer and educator Carl Reinecke. With a father who was a renowned music educator, Reinecke began composing at the age of 7, and was so precocious that he gave public performances as a pianist at the age of 12. His style was conservative, and even though he was criticized by his contemporaries, he never changed his style, stating that he "never had the audacity to regard himself as a pioneering genius. Nevertheless, Reinecke carefully studied the trends of the times and the works of other composers, and his own style was constantly maturing as he freely manipulated a variety of techniques. Of the two symphonies on this album, the first was composed in 1858 and the third in 1895, and both are filled with beautiful, haunting melodies. The opera "King Manfred," which unfortunately was not a success, is also a substantial work reminiscent of Schumann. The "Victory March" at the end is a gorgeous little piece with "fiery passion and festive spirit. Naxos Japan
