Every artist must find their own voice. GiaMargaret couldn’t find herself until she lost her voice. Unable to sing for years due to a vocal cord injury, she devised a different musical language and mastered the complex, intimate grammar of ambient music pioneered by Ernest Hood and perfected by The Books. A Chicago-based pianist and composer, she surrendered herself to the emotional potential of pure sound on the two instrumental albums she produced during that time (2020’s *MiaGargaret* and 2023’s *RomanticPiano*). And now, with her physical voice healed and her artistic voice refined, she returns to her roots with *Singing*, her first vocal album since 2018’s *There’s Always Glimmer*. As if guided by soft piano melodies reminiscent of breath blowing against glass, the music on *Singing* reflects the delicate sensibility of a jeweler cultivated in silence. *RomanticPiano* fully showcased Margaret’s talent for weaving seemingly contradictory emotions together with origami-like melodies. The album track “HinokiWood,” featuring vocals that seem to yearn for a time of innocence through the lens of experience, became a sensation on TikTok. Margaret, who also possesses talent as a producer and composer, delivers an unwavering emotional impact with her voice. Just like a natural garden, each note is carefully arranged without compromising its individual vitality.
