Amit Yahav is a young pianist from Israel. He has won numerous international awards, including the Georg Solti Prize and a prize at the 1st International Israeli Music Competition. He is currently based in London, where he performs solo and chamber music. This disc is a collection of fantasy pieces composed by Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Schumann, who lived in the same period. In the Fantasy Improvisation based on Chopin's own manuscript, he avoids excessive gestures and arbitrary interpretations as much as possible, which are common in performances of this piece, and his clear touch and moderate, neat music making that brings the form of the piece into clear relief are very pleasing.
