Clean and clear. French pianist Claire Désert is a familiar face at the Schumann Forgeurne Festival in Désert. Her French and fashionable pianism is appealing, but among her many discs, her performance of Schumann's works has been surprisingly acclaimed, and this is the long-awaited new recording of his works. The four works on this disc vary in terms of their creative period, but they all share the same characteristics: they are all in variation form and have an exercise-like element. The works are all in variation form, and all have in common the element of exercises. Even the one that is said to be based on a theme that Schumann heard from an angel in a hallucination in his last days is played at once with precise technique and cleanliness, without any sense of heaviness or seriousness.
