Description:

ENO Music Director Gardner's Musica Polska! Volume 7 is Shmanowski's Stabat Mater! English Maestro Edward Gardner, the Music Director of the English National Opera, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra present the second volume of Karol Szymanowski's (1882-1937) Musica Polska (Music of Poland), the seventh volume! The "Stabat Mater" and "Harnaschet" from the late creative period when Szymanowski was inclined to the folk music of the Tatra Mountains. Harnashe" (1927-31) for tenor solo voice, chorus, and orchestra was composed for ballet pantomime, and is ballet music in the typical style of the late Shimanowski period. And "Stabat Mater" (1925-26), which Shmanowski described as a "peasant requiem" and is sung in "Polish" rather than Latin, is one of the pinnacles of modern religious music that emerged in Eastern Europe in the 20th century. Gardner and the BBC Symphony Orchestra present two late masterpieces by Szymanowski, who was fascinated by the folk music of his native country. Tokyo M-Plus
