Richard O'Neill joins! The new Takács String Quartet Haydn! The Takács Quartet was founded in 1975 by Gábor Takács-Nagy, a student at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, and has since won first prize and the Critics' Prize at the Evian International String Quartet Competition in 1977. In June 2020, the world-renowned violist and Grammy Award-winning (+3 nominations) Takács Quartet will be joined by Richard O'Neill, This is the first release of Haydn's string quartets on the new Hyperion label, having previously released Op.71 (CDA67793) and Op.74 (CDA67781).This release contains four works: the two Op.77 pieces known as the "Lopkowitz Quartets," the late Op.103 (the last string quartet, unfinished), which shows the undiminished creativity of the old Haydn, and the short but rich Op.42. Haydn's past works have been very highly acclaimed by the string magazine The Strad, and the approach taken by the new group is highly anticipated. Tokyo M-Plus
