The pinnacle tag team again! The greatest duo of our time celebrates the 100th anniversary of Bernstein's birth! Zimmermann, who was the only pianist to perform and record with Bernstein in his later years, pays homage to Bernstein. Zimmermann also appeared as the pianist in Symphony No. 2 "The Age of Anxiety" in the video recorded by Unitel in 1986 (UCBG-9242), in which Bernstein conducted his own work. Bernstein asked Zimmermann to perform "The Age of Anxiety" again when I turn 100 years old, and that promise came true in another form 30 years later. The recording on this CD is the end of an era in Berlin, and "The Age of Anxiety" was recorded live during Rattle's last subscription concert series at the Philharmonie as Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic (the last concert before Mahler's Symphony No. 6 "Tragic").
