He has announced the release of his 14th solo studio album, *MAKE-UPISALIE*. This album, his first in about five years, also marks Morrissey’s return to SIRERECORDS. For this project, he reunited with producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, The White Stripes, Weezer, My Morning Jacket) to record the album at Studio La Fabrique in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, southern France. With poetic and provocative lyrics, an unpredictably striking instrumental arrangement, and 12 tracks bearing a title that can be interpreted as a blunt call for truth and expression, this album is sure to further solidify Morrissey’s status as one of the most highly acclaimed and powerful voices of the past 40 years. The album opens with an intoxicating introduction: the title track and first single, “Make-up Is a Lie.” Co-written by Morrissey and his keyboardist Camilla Gray, the song surges forth on a trip-hop-style groove featuring echoing drums, a driving bass riff, and a mysterious atmosphere, before bursting into swirling dream-pop during the chorus. Morissey’s vocals drift over the track, weaving a bizarre tale of a woman who, even in death, desperately tries to deliver a message to him. It is a moving and dynamic track where the evocative, soulful cry of “Make-up is a lie” in the chorus continues to resonate in the ears and heart long after it ends. The album features a familiar lineup of collaborators joining Morrissey, including Jesse Tobias, Camilla Gray, Carmen Vandenberg, Juan Galeano, Alan White, Gustavo Manzur, and Brendan Buckley. The tracklist includes song titles Morissey has previously hinted at or mentioned, as well as unreleased tracks, and a cover of Roxy Music’s 1973 hidden gem “Amazona.” The unpredictable charismatic figure, the solitary singer of love—Morrissey.
