Charles Ives (1874-1954) is known as a pioneer of contemporary American music. His works were always original and experimental. His main occupation was managing an insurance company, and he composed music in his spare time, but as everyone knows, he wrote a vast amount of works that cannot be called "hobby compositions. As mentioned above, his works are so avant-garde, for example, "Symphony No. 2" is a collage of various American folk songs, and Symphony No. 4 features two conductors, and so on, that the controversy is always enduring. The Piano Sonata No. 2 is such a piece, with each movement named after a person involved in the "transcendentalist movement" that took place in Concord in the early 19th century. The score is almost devoid of novel lines, and the use of tone clusters at times, and the optional participation of viola and flute, make this an enigmatic, if inedible, piece. And part of the second movement of this piece is also used in the aforementioned Symphony No. 4. The pianist Zimon Barthes, who has a very unique musical perspective, will be performing this piece.It is a pleasure to be enchanted by the stellar Ives, whose music and pianist's personalities seem to have fused and chemically changed.
