Almost 25 years after Pēteris Vasks' "Distant Light," one of the best violin concertos of recent years, which was premiered and recorded by Gidon Kremer and won the 1997 Latvian Music Grand Prize, Sebastien Bohlen has recorded the world premiere of his second violin concerto, "In the Dusk Light"! The world premiere recording was made by Sebastian Bohlen! Vasks, who was born in Latvia and whose lyrical and lucid style incorporates elements of his native music, completed his Violin Concerto No. 2 "In the Dusk Light" in 2020, a 38-minute work in three movements. The music, which flows slowly throughout, is meditative and moving, evoking a beautiful world of dusk with its deep shadows and dramatic contrasts. The final piece, "Lonely Angel," which is interspersed with Schubert's "Brilliant Rondo," arranged for violin and strings, is Vasks' tribute to his late mother, who survived most of the 20th century. This is another aesthetic work that will move the listener's heart. Sebastian Bohlen is a young and talented violinist born in Switzerland in 1987.The technical and expressive skills developed by master teachers such as Zakhar Bron, Giuliano Carmignola, and Dmitry Sitkovetsky are nothing short of superb, and this album conveys the full appeal of Vasks' music.
