Description:
Janet Sorrell & Apollo's Fire! Recreating Bach's Coffee House Music! Apollo's Fire is a Cleveland, Ohio-based period orchestra founded by Janet Sorrell, who studied with Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam and Roger Norrington and Leonard Bernstein in the US. The new album, "Bach's Coffee House," is a well planned project by this remarkable orchestra of the American classical music world, which has sold out its concert tours in Europe, made the Billboard charts when it released a CD, won a Grammy Award, and has been the talk of the town. Zimmermann's Coffee House (Café Zimmermann), which existed in Leipzig in the 1730s, was a live house café where many of the leading musicians of the time, including Bach, Telemann, Handel, Locatelli, and Porpora, performed and offered their music. The café was very popular at the time and served as a place for socializing and musical gatherings. Bach would have taken time off from his official duties as cantor of St. Thomas Church to relax and hold informal events at this thriving coffee house.New recordings of Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No. 4" and "Aria on the G string" are combined with sound recordings of Telemann's "Don Quixote Suite" (AV2353) and Vivaldi's "La Follia" (AV2485) from past albums to recreate the elegant salon of "Bach's Coffee House The program is being performed at the Tokyo M-Plus
