Eric Alexander

Description:

Eric Alexander's longtime dream of a string album is now available. Eric sings majestically with strings in the background, and his ultimate aesthetic, which is well known for his ballad performances, expresses the beauty of the songs in a straightforward manner. This is the first album of popular white tenor player Eric Alexander's first album with strings. He is popular in Japan with his golden quartet with pianist Harold Mayburn, who recently passed away. He is still a successful saxophonist, performing mainly at the Smoke jazz club in New York and touring around the world. He regularly visits Japan with alto saxophonist Vincent Herring and others to great acclaim. He has also participated in many recordings as a sideman. This is a leader work backed by Wise Strings, recorded in 2012-2013. The rhythm section is a quartet of David Hazeltine (p), John Webber (b), and Joe Farnsworth (b), who has also played in the "One ForAll" group for many years, with 9 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, flute, and French horn strings. Gorgeous album. The first song, "Gently," is an Eric's original and a familiar tune that he has often performed live when he visits Japan. This was followed by Mancini's "Dreamsville" and Bernstein's "Some Other Time. David Hazeltine's ballad playing, which shines throughout the program, is also a highlight of the program. The closing song, "The Thrill is Gone," is a longtime favorite of Eric's. This string project was made possible by singer and jazz aficionado Diane Armesto," says Eric. Eric says, "This string project was made possible by Diane Armesto, who is a singer and understands jazz. After the quartet recorded the backing for her vocal album, Diane Armesto took Eric's dream seriously and asked arranger Dave Rivello to create the arrangements, resulting in this wonderful string project. She says, "I absorbed the beauty of the songs straight from the source and always put the melody first. This is truly the ultimate Wise Strings album. Recorded in New York in August 2012 and March 2013. Commentary is by Yasukuni Terashima, who knows Eric Alexander well from his debut to the present.
