This is Jakob Young's fourth ECM leader release. This album not only marks Young's first foray into the guitar trio format, but also his, bassist Mats Eilertsen, and drummer Audun Clive's exploration of various pulses, temperaments, and styles, all tied together by the constant embrace of Jacob Young's melodies, which provides a broad view of his compositional palette; his last album, 2015's Forever Young, featured Trygve Seim and the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, and was described by The Guardian as "a set full of unproven surprises and contrasts" and "the quality of the compositions and the band's The quality of the compositions matched the band's formidable performance". Jacob's balladic tunes alternated with rhythmic emphasis, while Audun Clive's percussive playing provided a counterpoint, giving the compositions a sharp edge.Longtime partner Mats Eilertsen, who participated in Jacob's label debuts Evening Falls (2004) and Sideways (2007), provides a confident foundation, while complementing and challenging his colleagues with a lively contemporary jazz program.
