The Belgian chamber ensemble Oxalis, founded in 1993 by musicians from the Brussels Conservatory of Music, will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2018 with a six-CD set of selected recordings from the past. The collection includes material from the Passacaille label, as well as Warner, Fuga Libera, and other labels. Oxalis is comprised of eight main members, consisting of a string quintet, flute, clarinet, and harp, but the ensemble often expands to perform ensemble works for a variety of numbers. The repertoire ranges from classical to modern, and is characterized by colorful ensembles with exquisite arrangements. The ensemble's high level of performance has earned them an excellent reputation both in Japan and abroad. Whether it is a Mozart quartet, a chamber version of Mahler, or a contemporary Belgian piece, Oksalis' performance of these works creates a beautiful sense of unity. The sound is somewhat fragile, gently dreamy. I also appreciate the excellent recording, in which you can feel the warm breaths of the individual players. King International
