[Track List] ◆Mozart: Kegelstadt Trio: A clarinet trio said to have been composed by Mozart while he was enjoying “Kegeln,” a game similar to the precursor of bowling. ◆Stiel: Trio: An excellent, little-known clarinet trio composed during the early Romantic period. Its Beethoven-esque opening is particularly striking. World premiere recording. ◆Triebens: Augustin Variations: This piece uses as its theme a song that combines the name of Markus Augustin—a street singer who, while passed out drunk on the streets of Vienna, was mistaken for a plague victim and thrown into a massive pit, only to be safely rescued the next morning after playing the bagpipes—with a lament for the countless victims of the plague. In Japan, this piece became famous in the past through a commercial for “Kimura Camera.” ◆Schumann: Fairy Tale: Starting at 31 seconds into Track 8, the melody familiar from the third movement of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 appears. It seems to have had a significant influence on Brahms.
