THEFIZZBOMBS, an indie surf-punk band hailing from Edinburgh’s indie scene. Featuring ANGUSMCPAKE, drummer for JESSEGARONANDTHEDESPERADOES, MARGARITA VASQUEZ-PONTE and ANN DONALD of SHOPASSISTANTS, and KATY LIRONI—later known as KATY MCCULLARS, the vocalist for SECRETGOLDFISH—formed the band, which stood out in the Scottish underground scene of the late 1980s. Though they disbanded after releasing just two standalone albums, their sound continues to captivate many indie kids to this day. A rare live recording from BBC Radio in 1987 has finally been unearthed and released. Featuring session recordings made for Janice Long’s show, this album captures the excitement of Edinburgh at the time and all of the band’s early energy in vivid, raw recordings. Four tracks in total: the high-energy “BEACHPARTY”; “IT’SNOTASSIMPLEASTHAT,” a previously unreleased track that had been buried in history; “BLUESUMMER,” with its poignant, wistful melody; and “THENEILDIAMONDONE (CHERRY, CHERRY)—all four tracks explode with raw, edgy ensemble playing. The interplay of rough-edged instrumentation and bittersweet vocals leaves a vivid aftertaste throughout the entire work. Includes liner notes by MARGARITA VASQUEZ-PONTE and ANGUS MCPAKE, as well as previously unpublished photos. Limited edition 10-inch vinyl release.
