Description:
Celebrating the 150th anniversary of Holst's birth! A joint project of the Holst Society and the Vaughan Williams Society! The Vaughan Williams Society's own label, Albion Records, has been featuring the unknown, buried, and unpublished works of Leif Vaughan Williams. The new release is a joint project with the Holst Society, an album commemorating the 150th anniversary of Holst's birth on September 21, 1874! The program features chamber works written and arranged for violin and voice or other instruments by four composers who were contemporaries of Holst, combined with new arrangements of popular works. All three Holst works are arrangements that have never been recorded before. Vaughan Williams' "The Fried Lark" can be heard in a violin and harp arrangement by Valeria Clark.William Hurlstone, who died in 1906 at the age of 30, was highly regarded by his teacher, Charles Stanford, who included the first recording of his masterpiece, "Four English Sketches," and two previously unrecorded works for violin and piano. Rebecca Clark is a viola player and composer whose work has become well known in recent years. Watford native Ethel Barnes was a child prodigy, already performing publicly on both violin and piano before she entered the Royal Academy at age 13. On this disc, we hear the first recordings of two works for violin and piano. A diverse soloist with a particular emphasis on British music, violinist Hannah Roper performs regularly at major venues in the UK and abroad. Pianist Martin Jacoby, who performs throughout the UK as a soloist and chamber musician, and is well known as a recording artist and composer.Soprano Emma Trilling, a soloist and ensemble singer in the UK and abroad, and a longtime member of the BBC Singers and EXAUDI. The four soloists, Valeria Clark, who performs regularly with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Contemporary Orchestra, and is principal harpist of the London Electronic Orchestra, will celebrate the 150th anniversary of Holst's birth.
