Locky Chung. Markus Hadulla, Mahler :

Description:

Mitsuko Shirai and Helle's pupil and Korea's foremost baritone. Rocky Chung sings Mahler's inner world. The second new recording for 2024 by AudioGuy Records, one of Korea's leading recording companies, is a collection of Mahler songs sung by Rocky Chung, a baritone who studied with Mitsuko Shirai, a world authority on Lieder, and Hartmut Hell! After studying at Hanyang University in Korea, Rocky Chung moved to Germany, where he studied under Lerant Hermann, Mitsuko Shirai, and Hartmut Hell at the prestigious Karlsruhe College of Music, where he developed his talent as a Lieder singer. She won a prize at the ARD Munich International Music Competition, which is known for its difficulty, and was awarded first prize at the Robert Schumann International Competition in Zwickau, Germany, and the Hugo Wolf International Competition in Stuttgart, Germany. She has established her reputation as one of Korea's leading Lieder singers. She is skilled not only in lieder but also in old music singing, and has performed with such masters of the old music world as Rilling, Copeman, Hengelbrock, and Masaaki Suzuki. With German pianist Markus Hadulla, who has been active as a duo since winning the Lieder Duo Prize at the Hugo Wolf International Competition, the "Mahler Lieder" contains 17 songs based on "The Magic Horn of the Boy" and "Poems by Rückert," which Mahler himself is said to have loved the most. The "Mahler Lieder" with German pianist Marcus Haddulla contains 17 songs based on Mahler's most beloved poems, "The Boy's Magic Horn" and "Rückert's Poem," and five songs including "Where the Trumpets Sound" and "Original Light" were selected from the collection "15 Songs, Fumoresques and Ballads on the Boy's Magic Horn" compiled by Mahler specialist Renate Starck-Foit with the help of Thomas Hampson. The five songs were selected from the collection. Rocky Chung said that he wanted to touch the extremely human inner world of Mahler, a superhuman great composer, through Lied. The familiar feelings of love and pain, hope and despair, anticipation and fear that he sensed through his masterpieces are skillfully expressed. Tokyo M-Plus
