Description:
SONY DADC Pressed Limited Edition for Japan! Including Japanese commentary! Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2! Simon Callahan & Hiroaki Takenouchi, the amazing piano duo continues their exploration of rare repertoire with a new recording! The big winner, "Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 2" has finally been released! Limited production for Japan, SONY DADC pressing with Japanese commentary! Pianists Simon Callaghan and Hiroaki Takenouchi, who have discovered many unknown piano works, met at the Royal College of Music in England as students of Yontay Solomon in his later years, and also performed under the name Parnassius Piano Duo. They have worked on rare piano duo repertoire by Parry, Mettener, Sherwood, Standale Bennett, and others, although in 2020 they released a remarkable and well-received album of "Chopin and Liszt Piano Sonatas arranged by Saint-Saëns." The recording of the two-piano version of Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2, which was released in 2017 to great acclaim, has finally been realized! Although Rachmaninoff had arranged piano four-hand versions of his own Symphonies No. 1 and No. 3, no two-piano arrangement of Symphony No. 2 by the composer himself has survived.Symphony No. 2 has been extremely popular since its premiere, and only two years after its premiere in St. Petersburg (1910), a four-hand version was created by Vladimir Virchow (1868-1957). Simon Callahan and Hiroaki Takenouchi took on the challenge of performing "Symphony No. 2" in a new version newly arranged by the two of them. While aiming to be as faithful as possible to the original, they also embraced the capabilities of the two pianos and their limitations in order to create a truly pianistic work rather than a mere imitation of the orchestral version The arranged version, which was performed at St. John's Smith Square in 2017, in hindsight, many The arranged version we performed at St. John's Smith Square in 2017 was, in hindsight, technically impractical as many of the passages were too dense. Over the past five years, we have further refined the details and incorporated as much of Rachmaninoff's intentions as possible, while also drawing inspiration from Rachmaninoff's own arrangements of symphonic dances and suites for two pianos, resulting in the recording of the pleasantly pianistic "Symphony No. 2". NI8110JP" is a limited edition pressing by SONY DADC for the Japanese market. The product with "NI8110" released overseas is a CD-R disc. Please be forewarned in advance. Tokyo M-Plus
