Description:
A collection of piano and orchestra works by two French composers, Fauré and Poulenc. Fauré's Ballade begins with a graceful and reserved atmosphere, but closes with a gorgeous passage reminiscent of Liszt. The Fantasie is a work from his mature period, and while the piano movement is restrained, it has a flowing melody that uses Fauré's unique harmonic progression. Aubade" is a dance piece written for piano and 18 instruments. Poulenc himself created and composed the scenario based on a mythological episode. Roman Descharmes, the winner of the 2006 Dublin International Piano Competition, and a virtuoso pianist whose NAXOS recordings include the complete piano concertos of Saint-Saëns, brings out the charm of the work with his neat pianism.
