Conducted by Holliger!] This album features a live recording of the song-drama *Ombra Felice*, which premiered as a new production during the 1994 “Mozart Week” in Salzburg. The work masterfully combines a diverse array of Mozart’s vocal works. Although Mozart composed numerous vocal works throughout his life, concert arias, canons, and ensembles—as well as arias written as insertions into other composers’ operas—are often overlooked. Because they stand alone, they do not receive as many performance opportunities as Mozart’s more cohesive vocal works, such as his operas and sacred music. This production, which combines these diverse works into a structure resembling a single opera, is a wonderful gift for Mozart fans. The cast features Veronica Cangemi, who was in her early 30s at the time, Natalie Stutzmann, and Michael Schade—a group of rising stars on the verge of international stardom—along with narration by Mireille Moser, who evokes the young Mozart, and the Mozarteum Camerata Academica conducted by Heinz Holliger, making for a truly luxurious lineup.
