Description:
The Royal Opera Company's new production of "The Tales of Hoffmann" starring Flores! Hoffmann visits his Lutheran grandfather's tavern in Nuremberg. He is beguiled by his friends there, and begins to tell them about his past love affairs. In the midst of the story, an incarnation of the Devil hinders Hoffmann's path to love, and a muse (and her incarnations) appear to guide and help Hoffmann, giving a fantastic color to Hoffmann's love journey. This is the third production of one of the most popular operas, "The Tales of Hoffmann," following the 1954 and 1980 versions. The production features the world-renowned tenor Flores, who is at the peak of his maturity in the title role, and three prima donnas with rich personalities: Pudois as the comical mechanical doll Olympia, Yao as the sickly beautiful girl Antonia, and Costa-Jackson as the bewitching Giulietta. In addition, the incarnation of the devil, played by the masterful Esposito, adds a spicy accent.The rich and talented singers under the baton of Antonello Manacorda, who is in great demand in the world of opera, and the passionate performance by the orchestra and dancers of Covent Garden give Offenbach's music a lively and rich lyricism, and together with the production that beautifully realizes the fantastic and bizarre world of Damiano Micheletto, the genius of the opera, the result is a stage that is worth seeing and hearing.
