Description:
That "Messiah" is now resounding in Italian! Here comes the Italian-language version of "Messiah," considered the first appearance of "Messiah" on the European continent: a recording that revives the performance that took place at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence on August 6, 1768, 24 years after its first performance in Dublin on April 13, 1742. In this version, the content of the work was changed to fit the Catholic doctrine, the lyrics were rewritten from English to Italian, and the three-part work was transformed into two parts to fit the Italian oratorio tradition, resulting in a compact appearance with a performance time of 76 minutes. In 2019, the Handel House Foundation in Halle acquired the complete score of this Florentine edition. This edition is believed to be the earliest documented premiere of "Messiah" on the European continent, and new details of when it was performed in Florence are now available. Recorded live at the Innsbruck Festival, it was conducted by Alessandro De Marchi, artistic director of the festival from 2010-23. Naxos Japan
