Description:
British composer Adrian Sutton was born in Kent in 1967 and spent his youth in Zimbabwe and South Africa before studying music at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Early in his career he produced studio and concert works and worked as a television scriptwriter, but later shifted his interest to dramatic music, collaborating with the National Theatre in London on many popular productions, including the successful "War Horse" and "The Strange Case of the Dog in the Night-Time," for which he received the Laurence Olivier Award. Sutton's music shows the influence of 20th century British orchestral music, particularly Walton, Backus, and Finzi. After receiving a diagnosis of illness in 2022, Sutton decided to devote himself to concert music and began a series of new compositions. One of these is the Violin Concerto, published in June 2023. It was given its world premiere by Fenella Humphreys. He describes these new works as "the music of my true self. In this album, the violin concerto is the main focus, and you can also hear orchestral works based on theater pieces. Naxos Japan
