Description:

Room of Wonders Contents Bach(1685-1750): 1-3. 1-3. italian concerto in F major BWV 971 4-5. chromatic Fantasy and Fugue in D minor, BWV 903 6-8. concerto for harpsichord solo in G minor, BWV 975 (based on Vivaldi's concerto RV 316) 9-14. capriccio "On the Departure of My Beloved Brother" in B flat major, BWV 992 15-20. english suite No.3 in g minor BWV 808 21-22. prelude and fugue in c-sharp minor BWV 849 (from "The Mean Clavier Book, Vol. 2") Performer Bertrand Cuiller (Harpsichord) Instrument: reproduction made by Philippe Humeau of Barbasto in 2014, based on the model made by Heinrich Greppner of Dresden in 1722 Recorded: May 16-20, 2022 at St. Apollinaire Church, Bolland (Liège, Eastern Belgium) Born in Nantes, the birthplace of La Folle Journée, to Daniel Cuyet, a baroque violinist who founded the French ancient instrumental band Stradivarius, and his partner Joseline Cuyet, an ancient keyboard player, Cuyet has played with Stradivarius as well as Les Basses Les Unis and Bertrand Cuiller is a genuine keyboardist of ancient music who has spun masterpieces not only with Stradivarius but also with up-and-coming groups such as Les Basses Les Unis and Les Luneziane. His lush and deep playing has been featured on the ALPHA and MIRARE recordings, and in recent years he has also been active on the Ramée label, where he works as a recording engineer and producer. Following his Bach sonata collection (RAM1908) with the renowned traverso player Frank Thüns, this album features a well-balanced selection of important works from the early, middle, and late periods of the great Bach, who was a master of keyboard performance. Facing a two-stage keyboard instrument made by master craftsman Philippe Humeau, modeled after the famous instrument made by Grebner, a Dresden-based maker who was also closely associated with this composer (an example is said to have been used by Mozart for the first performance of "Don Giovanni" in Prague), the musicians play each piece with rich nuance without feeling self-conscious at all, and at the same time, they play the pieces with a sense of depth and depth. The audience will be able to enjoy the fascination of each piece with a richly nuanced performance without feeling overawed.Like the "Room of Wonders," which displayed curios and works of art collected by early modern monarchs through their wealth and connections, we hope you will take the time to enjoy the inner universe of Bach's music, which will surprise you with its profundity the more deeply you appreciate it.
