The oldest Neapolitan Intermezzo "O beautiful time gone by" by Capella Napolitana - world premiere recording! In the middle of the 17th century, the art form of opera, which had emerged from Venice, was flourishing in Naples, and the opera Intermezzo "A beautiful time has passed" was composed there. This is the oldest surviving Neapolitan intermezzo accompanying the opera "Desperate Innocence" by Francesco Antonino Boerio, which was discovered by Antonio Florio in his research of the literature. The setting is the streets of Naples in the 17th century, under the rule of Habsburg Spain. The four characters - a Neapolitan, a Calabrian, and a boy, three of the usual characters in Neapolitan comedies, plus a Spaniard - are recreated in a song play that combines comic singing in four different languages with dances such as La Follia, Tarantella, and Passacaglia. The first of the Neapolitan Baroque music revival.
