Carlo Albanesi was born in Naples to a composer father. After receiving his early musical education from his father Luigi and giving his first successful concerts in Italy, he moved to Paris at the age of 20 to work as a composer. 1882 he moved to London on the recommendation of Paolo Tosti, where he gave concerts and composed music. In 1893, he was appointed professor of piano at the Royal Academy of Music, where he taught for 33 years until his death. Although Albanese is said to have rarely performed his own compositions in public, his skillfully written works show that he was a talented pianist. He left behind about 60 works, including orchestral and chamber music, most of which are piano pieces, and his six sonatas (only five of which are extant) are the essence of his creative activity. This album includes the sonata considered to be his second sonata, the fourth sonata, and the beautifully melodic "Wish, Romance," published in 1910. Julia Severus, who specializes in Bizet and Rachmaninoff, plays these works with a delicate air. Naxos Japan
