This is the second full-size opera (third if you count the smaller, 30-minute "To the Little Hill") by George Benjamin and Martin Crimp, released in 2018.It tells the story of King Edward II of England, who reigned around the year 1300, and his favorite Pierce Gaveston (Gaveston), and Mortimer, who plotted a coup through the queen, are based on anecdotes. The story is based on the anecdotes of Pierce Gaveston (Gaveston), who fell in love with the queen, and Mortimer, who attempted a coup through the queen. The young brother and sister have been exposed to the horrific world of adults, including homosexuality, political corruption, infidelity, betrayal and executions, and have never spoken a word. What will they decide to do at the end of the story? The hard plot is portrayed with tense music from beginning to end. The singers, including Barbara Hannigan, who is now the queen of modern and contemporary vocal works, are excellent, and their skillful and impassioned performances will keep you breathless and tense all the way through the 90-minute performance.
