Flying Lotus, a genius who traces his lineage to the Coltrane family, led the beat music scene in the late 2000s and is now a leading figure in electronic music. His debut album *1983*, released in 2006 and long out of print, is set to be reissued as a 20th-anniversary remastered edition on a limited-edition domestic CD featuring an ultra-luxurious gold special package. Flying Lotus’s career—which has produced modern classics such as *You’re Dead!*, *Cosmogramma*, and *Until the Quiet Comes*—began with his landmark debut album *1983*, released 20 years ago. This work, which serves as the origin point for his own label *Brainfeeder*, is deeply imbued with his early artistic impulses, set against the backdrop of its creation in his grandmother’s bedroom. Centered on the influence of J Dilla, his unique style—a fusion of jazz and Brazilian syncopation—was already firmly established. In particular, his exposure to Brazilian music, fostered through interactions with street vendors in Copacabana, brought about a significant shift in his beatmaking. Furthermore, elements such as his background in jazz, his interest in soundtracks, and his internship experience at *Stones Throw Records* are deeply reflected in the sound collage of this album. Although it was his debut album, its sound transcended the boundaries of a newcomer, foreshadowing that he would pioneer a new era and lead the way. Spurred on by the words “Give us something even weirder” from Plug Research, the label he was signed to at the time, that challenge bore fruit. *1983* became the starting point of a career that would go on to include six subsequent studio albums.
