Description:
Bach and Zilberman families, the most advanced composers (performers) and instrument makers of the time, are engaged in a great battle! This is an excellent project that traces the musical lineage of the Bach family from the perspective of musical instruments. Music for the Bach family was instrument making for the Zilberman family. Just as the Bach family had disciples, Andreas and Gottfried Silbermann had many disciples (they were called the Twelve Apostles). The reverse is also true. The Bach and Zilberman families may have been at each other's throats in the realm of music and musical instruments, provoking and enhancing each other's skills. In this recording, Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboula and Les Surpreys present a wonderful contrast between the two families: the family of composers and the family of organ and fortepiano writers. The organ is a masterpiece among masterpieces from St. Mary's Cathedral in Freiburg, and the fortepiano, a superb copy of a Zilberman instrument, has been selected to trace the musical lineage of the Bach family from the point of view of the instruments. The performance itself is very exciting, with a wonderful organ sound, and the fortepiano and harpsichord are recorded with a rich sound that reminds us that excellent music was born because of these wonderful instruments!
