A 25-CD box set capturing the true essence of the Polish-born "Dictator of the Podium," renowned for his uncompromising conducting style. This collection brings together recordings made by the celebrated Polish conductor Artur Rodziński for the Westminster label. These recordings were made in London and Vienna between 1954 and 1958, the year of Łodziński's death. They convey the true character of Łodziński, the "dictator of the podium," who drew out the utmost energy from the orchestra while honing his talent as a virtuoso. Most of the recordings are world premiere CD releases or first-time CD releases, and the set also includes rehearsal recordings that are being released for the first time. The repertoire consists mainly of late Romantic and early 20th century works, such as Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Kodály's Dance Suite, and R. Bogner-Strauß's symphonic poems, focusing on works that respond to the master conductor's interest in delicate orchestral color and extreme tempo and dynamics.In piano concertos performed with Paul Badura-Skoda, Yuri Bukov, and Jörg Demus, he plays as an insightful accompanist, while in Brahms and Tchaikovsky violin concertos, he has forged a special bond with Erika Morini. Furthermore, his long experience in the theater lends overwhelming command to Wagner's "popular pieces" and the ballet suites by Bizet and Tchaikovsky. Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 is also an important record demonstrating how Rodzinski introduced this composer to the West at an early stage. The set also includes Loginski's recorded speech of thanks to the orchestra, made at the end of the session. As further precious audio material specially unearthed for this set, multiple rehearsal recordings are included, documenting Loginski's unique style and his dedication to artistic integrity.
