Description:

Long-awaited by piano fans! Vladimir Feltzman, the "Piano Philosopher," recorded his masterpieces for Columbia and Sony Classical in an 8-CD limited edition set, which contains the complete works of Vladimir Feltzman. Vladimir Feltzman made his sensational U.S. debut in 1987. Like Maisky and Ugorski, he is often discussed in the context of the control of art under the Communist regime, but even without considering such political factors, we can say that Feltzmann is not only an outstanding pianist and virtuoso, but also a musician who has reached rare heights in poetic and philosophical terms. Vladimir Feltzman is not only an exceptional pianist and virtuoso. Vladimir Feltsman was born in Moscow in 1952, made his debut at the age of 11 with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, and entered the Tchaikovsky Memorial State Moscow Conservatory in 1969. He studied piano with Professor Jacob Freer and composition at both the Moscow and Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Conservatories. After winning the Grand Prix at the Marguerite Long International Piano Competition (piano section of the Long Thibaud Competition) in Paris in 1971, she embarked on an extensive performance career, touring concerts in the former Soviet Union, Europe, and Japan. Growing increasingly dissatisfied with the restrictions on artistic freedom under the former Soviet regime, Feltzman announced his intention to emigrate by applying for an exit visa in 1979. After eight years of virtual exile from the art world, he was finally allowed to leave the Soviet Union and arrived in the United States in 1987, where he received a warm welcome at the White House from then President Ronald Reagan, and was invited to perform at the CBS Masterworks (now Sony Computer Entertainment). CBS Masterworks (now Sony Classical) immediately signed him to a recording contract. His U.S. debut at Carnegie Hall that same year catapulted him to the top ranks of American music pianists. Today, he regularly performs as a soloist with all the major orchestras in the United States, as well as in prominent concert cycles and festivals around the world.A dedicated teacher of young musicians, Feltsman is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Piano at the State University of New York at New Paltz, where he founded and serves as artistic director of the International Festival Institute, which he calls "Piano Summer. His intensive three-week training courses for advanced piano majors attract young talent from around the world. (1/2) Sony Music
