Description:
The much-talked-about and highly-acclaimed pianist Vikringle Olafsson makes his DG debut in November 2016! He graduated from Robert McDonald's class at the Juilliard School. He has performed with the Juilliard Orchestra and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, among others. In addition to being welcomed as an instructor of music master classes at Oxford University and Reykjavik University, he has given outreach recitals for students with the aim of opening new doors to classical music. 5 piano concertos were premiered. He also appeared in the media to promote the music and produced about a dozen "music episodes," a television series for the Icelandic Broadcasting Corporation. He has received many awards, including the Icelandic Music Award, the American Scandinavian Social and Cultural Award, the Juilliard Bartók Competition Award, and the Rotary Foundation Cultural Award. He is a young musician who has performed with Sayaka Shoji and Bjork, and is bringing a new style of music to Iceland. He is both a traditional concert pianist and a collaborator with contemporary composers such as Bjork and Ålavar Arnalds, opening up a new world.The first release to DG is a collection of works by Philip Glass, who will turn 80 in January 2017.
