Ilya Gringolts, born in St. Petersburg in 1982, made his Onyx debut with Schumann's "Violin Sonatas" (ONYX 4053), and in 1998, at the age of just 16, he won the Paganini International Competition. The young prodigy, who won the Paganini International Competition in 1998 at the age of just 16, has chosen Schumann's chamber music, "Piano Trios," as his next step in his new career with the Onyx! The three piano trios by Schumann were composed over a four-year period from 1847 to 1851. The "No. 1" was a birthday present for his wife Clara, the "No. 2" was more free style and full of creativity, and the "No. 3" was composed two years before he committed suicide by throwing himself into the Rhine River in Desseldorf.Composed in a short period of four years, the "Three Piano Trios" are masterpieces of German Romantic chamber music that express Schumann's inner joy, anger, sorrow, and anguish.
