Eighty years have passed since Kenji Miyazawa's "Night on the Galactic Railroad" was first published in 1934 in the Bunpodo edition of the complete works. The film has a large number of enthusiastic fans, and the much-requested Blu-ray release of this work has been realized! The film is directed by Gisaburo Sugii, and the film was made possible by the collaboration of a splendid staff. Director Sugii Gisaburo, whose works include "Touch" and "The Biography of Gusuko Budori" and who received the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Film Merit Award in 2010, has adapted Kenji Miyazawa's fairy tale into an animated film. Based on a manga by Masumura Hiroshi, in which the characters are replaced by anthropomorphic cats, the film is set to fantastic music by Hosono Haruomi. Winner of the 40th (1985) Mainichi Film Concours Ohto Noburo Prize! An animated feature film adaptation of Kenji Miyazawa's classic children's story. A gem of a fantasy film! The story is filled with transparent colors, fantastic images, and a literary flavor.
