In 1979, at the Talent Studio in Oslo, American bassist Charlie Haden, Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek, and Brazilian guitarist, pianist, and bassist Jorge Martinez, played a set of "The Sound of the World" by the Norwegian saxophonist, Jan Garbarek, and the American bassist, Charlie Haden, With the exception of the first track, "Ballerina," which is 14 minutes long, this album contains original compositions from the pens of each member. Hayden's dreamy bass leads the way, while Garbarek's soprano sax evokes a bleak Nordic landscape and Gismonti's soft, sunny acoustic guitar arpeggios create the ultimate ECM sound. A magical experience that is simultaneously meditative and contemplative. The original recording engineer was Jan-Erik Kongshaug.
