Michiaki Ueno, the winner of the 2021 Geneva International Competition, recorded Bach's complete works for unaccompanied cello at the age of 26. He was very eager to record Bach on this album, his international debut. He was very keen to record Bach for his international debut album. He visited churches in Germany and the Netherlands to check the acoustics and chose a church in the suburbs of Cologne. The performance is full of song while maintaining a moderate tempo, and every note is expressive. The sixth piece, which is said to have been written with a five-string cello piccolo in mind, was performed on his beloved four-string cello (made in Italy by an unknown maker).
