Description:

Jim Crouch, the eternal singer/songwriter who died suddenly in an unforeseen plane crash in 1973. His legacy to ABC Records has been revived on CD! The long-awaited reissue of "YOU DON'T MESS AROUND WITH JIM," his first album for ABC in 1972 and the No. 1 album in the U.S., which spawned numerous hits including the title track, "Operator" and "Time In A Bottle"! Born January 10, 1943 in South Philadelphia, Jim Crouch began his musical career in college, releasing two albums (one of which was a duo album with his wife, Ingrid) but was not commercially successful. He toured clubs and small venues throughout the U.S. in 1968 after working in all kinds of jobs, including road construction and teaching. He met his future bandmate Maury Muehleisen and finally got a contract with ABC Records in 1972. At the time, Crouch was already just shy of 30 years old. He had a good start with the singles "Don't Mess with Jim" and "Leroy Brown is a Bad Guy," which became hits at major concert venues all over the United States. However, on September 20, 1973, he tragically died in a plane crash in Louisiana. It is said that it was the day before the release of his new single "I Gotta Name. He was 30 years old. It was only one year after his major label debut. His folky and warm voice and sound, which reflected the sorrows and joys of life, are still loved by many people more than 45 years after his death. The album he left behind for ABC Records is being reissued on CD and 180-gram heavy-duty analog format. The title track, the first single from the album, became a #8 hit on the U.S. singles chart, and the second single, "Operator," also reached #17 in the U.S. Following Jim's death, "Time In A Bottle" was released as the third single from the album and spent two consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. singles chart. It was his second and final #1 hit in the US. The single hit was followed by the album, which stayed at No. 1 on the U.S. album chart in January 1974, and remained at the top of the charts for five consecutive weeks.
