A collection of motets and Te Deum by French composer Bouzignac, whose power and fullness surpass even Bach's PassionsBouzignac was a musician born at the end of the 16th century and active in the first half of the 17th century. His music was buried in history for over 250 years and was virtually ignored for another 50 years or so after it was unearthed. This is because he did not serve the court or the church, and his scores were not published at the time. His works, however, are no less powerful than those of the great Bach. For example, the Passion motet (track 2) is in the style of a "dialogue," in which the interaction between Pilate and the crowd is reproduced in music. It is amazing to think that something like this had been written before Bach. The Jubilate Deo, written in the style of Ritornello, is another example of a work that never existed before Bach. The soft vocal music by Christie's Les Arts Florissants is also superb. The instrumentalists include Philippe Pierlot, Kaori Uemura, Jerome Anthey, and Kenneth Weiss. King International
