Otakar Ostrcil was born in Prague in 1879. After studying modern linguistics at the University of Prague, he taught Czech and German at the Czech Commercial Academy in Prague. As a musician, Ostruchl was always involved in the development of contemporary music in all aspects of his artistic activities and is known for his active introduction of works by Janacek, Fybih, and others that were rarely featured in Prague at the time. His symphonic poem "The Story of Šemík" was written at the age of 19. It is a symphonic poem based on an ancient Czech legend about "Vyšehrad," and is rarely performed. The program also includes "Fanfare," composed by Dvořák for the opening of the Prague Regional Festival Exhibition; "My Homeland," an overture that strongly expresses Dvořák's patriotic sentiment; "Carnival in Prague," by Smetana, whose 200th anniversary is this year (2024); the symphonic poem "Vyšehrad"; and Suk's The program includes "Prague", a symphonic poem by Suk, and "Prague", a symphonic poem by Smetana.
