The latest installment of Savar's historical tales is on the Islamic traveler, Ibn Battuta! The Savar Historical Tales series, this time on the subject of Ibn Battuta, a Muslim traveler. Ibn Battuta's (1304-1377) travelogue (Rihla) is as important as Marco Polo's (1254-1324) "Travels in the East". It describes his travels over a period of about 30 years, and was translated and published in 2005 in Catalan, Savar's native tongue. In those days, travel was a form of asceticism and a search for knowledge. Bhattha's travel writings provide important information about the social conditions, customs, and history of the time, and have changed the perceptions of contemporaries and future generations about the world of the East (including Muslim and non-Muslim countries). Savard gave a concert in Paris in which he performed traditional music from various places he visited (Morocco, Mali, Egypt, Yemen, Zanzibar, India, the Maldives, China, etc.), using traditional instruments, accompanied by readings of verses taken from the book of Batuta.
