The new volume in Savard's Historical Tales series is a two-disc set of music related to war and peace in Europe during the Baroque period. The program is a picture scroll of historical narrative through music, based on deep historical reflection on the Baroque period, from the Ottoman attack on Hungary in 1613 to the end of the War of Succession to the Spanish Throne in 1714, a period that is essential to the history of Europe. Savard's musical selections include works by Lully, Handel, Charpentier, Scheidt, and other leading European musicians of the 17th and 18th centuries, with works influenced in no small measure by the Thirty Years' War and the War of Succession to the Spanish Throne. The music includes Savard's own creations, and as always, the extensive booklet (in English, French, German, Italian, Castilian, and Catalan) will further expand the world of the music.
